Purpose:
Veren is looking to fill Engineering Internship positions for May 2025 based in Weyburn, SK. These internships are 16-months in length and provide you the opportunity to get hands on experience that will develop the skills for a career in Oil and Gas industry.
Please note there are multiple positions available in different areas of specialty, the departments we are hiring for include Facilities and Production Engineering. Through the application process, you can identify which disciplines you would like to apply for.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Interns will work under the guidance of an experienced engineer. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic high performing team. You will do challenging work, solve problems, and make an impact. Examples of some of the duties, by department are outlined below:

Production Engineering

  • Provide support on well optimizations which includes surface and downhole (economics and equipment loading evaluation)
  • Designing artificial lift systems (rod pumps, gas lift, plunger lift, PCP’s and ESP’s)
  • Analysis on pump efficiency to evaluate potential optimizations
  • Service Rig workover analysis and economics
  • Evaluation of shut-in wells to determine if economically viable to re-activate or be added to abandonment list (prioritization of abandonment list)
  • Assist with AFEs (authorizations for expenditure) as well as cost and optimization tracking
  • Optimization Tracking

Facilities Engineering

  • Assist the Engineering team with the scoping, design, and project management of various gas and oil related facilities projects
  • Design, estimate, and execute various gas and oil related facilities projects (oil batteries, pipelines, pump/compressor stations, etc.)
  • Assist with the initiation and execution of the Management of Change (MOC) process, including necessary engineering calculations
  • Field data capture, including as-built updates to process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s)
  • Help support ESG initiatives that involve the Facilities Engineering group
  • Monitoring changes to drilling and completions schedule to determine affected project timelines
  • Develop an understanding of relevant codes, standards, and regulations and their application
  • Project cost tracking, accruals, and assisting with forecasting of project expenditures
  • Develop hydraulic models of flowline systems to support effective project scoping and operational troubleshooting

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in 3rd year of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and scheduled to return to school following a 16-month internship
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas industry would be an asset
  • Excellent computer skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
  • Experience with business intelligence software (Power BI, Spotfire) and/or data analysis tools (Python, R) would be an asset
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is required
  • Enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Team player who enjoys learning and contributing to team goals
