Description:
Are you a network engineering professional looking for a role that combines hands-on technical work, project leadership, and travel? Wilson James is seeking a Field Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic Infrastructure team and play a pivotal role in maintaining and evolving our remote IT infrastructure.
In this position, you’ll report directly to the Infrastructure Manager and collaborate closely with the team to lead projects at some of our more remote sites, including branch and site offices across the UK. You will be responsible for the integration, administration, and ongoing maintenance of these locations’ network infrastructure, ensuring secure, accurate, and efficient access for all users. This is a critical role that allows you to make a tangible impact on our company’s technology backbone while becoming the subject matter expert in network infrastructure.

Hardware/Firmware Upgrades and Replacement - Lead lifecycle management of remote site-based infrastructure, including in-place upgrades, firmware updates, and equipment swap-outs to ensure efficient and up-to-date systems.
Responsibilities:
- Security Patch Remediation - Review and apply security patches to infrastructure components, maintaining a secure and compliant network environment.
- Perform Regular Audits and Risk Analysis - Conduct regular audits of equipment and cabling, along with user experience analysis, to ensure compliance with standards and proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Plan Growth and Changes (Capacity Planning) - Engage in proactive capacity planning by understanding current performance requirements and anticipating future business needs, ensuring the infrastructure is scalable and flexible.
- Maintenance of Cabling - Ensure all cabling related to primary connectivity infrastructure is well-organized, maintained, and purposeful to guarantee optimal performance and reduce operational risks.
