Description:

The Field Technician will respond to customer callouts and will provide technical service and maintenance support via on-site field visits. The technician will troubleshoot and diagnose on-site issues and manage the installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks. This role will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment out in the field and providing technical training when necessary.
The Field Technician will positively impact UCLA’s operations and culture by ensuring UCLA’s IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university’s academic mission. This team member will advance the University’s mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA’s vision while modeling UCLA’s culture and values.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, management, customer service, higher education, or a related field. (Required)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university (Preferred)
  • General knowledge of PBX switching systems operation and capabilities. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge regarding the installation, maintenance, and repair requirements of the range of state-of-art installed in the University facilities. (Required)
  • Ability to install and program electronic communications equipment (e.g. Norstar, Device Readers, etc.) (Required)
  • Ability to interpret technical documents pertaining to communications interface devices on state-of-the-art telecommunications systems (Required)
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards including those pertaining to work in construction sites, small crawl spaces, close to electrical circuitry and with the variety of installation tools. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of and ability to correctly apply the principles, industry acronyms, and standard methods of IT Services engineering, and the ability to utilize appropriate information resources. (Required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. (Required)
  • Able to develop positive working relationships with team members and customers. (Required)
  • Strong organizational skills. (Required)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Able to make decisions with integrity. (Required)

EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & PERSONAL AFFILIATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree In one or more of: information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or related field, or equivalent combination of experience/training. (Preferred)
