Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Justice Officer is an entry-level position to a career in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). DJCS comprises of eight Regions, through which the compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
The Finance Justice Officer provides a range of corporate support services, within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility and requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, integrity, accuracy, compliance and timeliness.
The Finance Officer will process a range of financial, accounts payable and purchasing transactions ensuring compliance with requirements and timelines. This role will ensure electronic and paper-based record keeping systems are up to date and accurate. The role will also ensure compliance with regard to maintenance of asset registers and conduct periodic reviews.
This position may require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Enterprise Agreement.

SOME OF YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Under minimal supervision, providing a range of high-quality finance related services to Beechworth Correctional Centre; maintain accurate records in accordance with the Financial Management Act 1194, other government regulations and guidelines local operating procedures
  • Performing a range of accounts functions, including payables, receivables, reconciliation, and data entry and reporting
  • Ensuring accurate and timely preparation of Beechworth Correctional Centre invoices for payment
  • Maintain Asset registers for the location ensuring compliance with Departmental requirements.

About You:As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Well-developed computer literacy
  • Knowledge of accounting processes in particular accounts payable
  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle or similar finance related system
  • Demonstrated experience in fixed asset accounting and asset register maintenance is desirable.
