Canda Six Fortune Enterprise Co. Ltd. is one of the leading importers and distributors of Asian food products from the Pacific Rim and other regions of the world. We are currently looking for a Finance Manager to join our Finance team in our AB office.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Finance Manager will provide support to Financial Reporting on accounting and finance-related issues, perform interpretive financial analysis including preparation of MD&A and FP&A, and present findings and recommendations to management. This role involves planning and implementing projects related to accounting functions, system changes, and new solutions/tools. Key areas of responsibility include Finance, Cost Accounting, General Accounting, Internal Auditing, System and Procedures Review & Streamlining, Risk Management (including insurance coverage), KPI measurement, Income Tax and Commodity Tax compliance, and Finance System Project Management. This is an on-site position.

REQUIREMENTS / MUST-HAVES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
  • CPA/CGA/CMA designation or in the intermediate to later stages of the program.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial reporting process.
  • Fundamental understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and general business concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and assimilate financial information into actionable data and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and project planning skills.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with ERP software is an asset.
  • Highly professional, organized, meticulous, and extremely detail-oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize and control multiple tasks under time constraints, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and execute projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support month-end processing and reporting.
  • Support preparation of consolidated financial statements.
  • Prepare complex journal entries, period-end adjustment postings, and authorize rule-based journal entries.
  • Manage quarterly and year-end reporting.
  • Prepare detailed departmental financial statements and key metrics for each cost centre and division.
  • Analyze weekly and monthly variances of sales, cost, margin, labour, and overhead.
  • Provide analytical variance explanations between budget vs. actual for key performance indicators.
  • Provide finance support for cost savings analysis, allocation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Active involvement and participation in continuous improvement activities, including cost savings opportunities and zero-loss analytics.
  • Present and provide interpretation of monthly financial results to internal operating departments.
  • Meet as needed with executives to present and review financials.
  • Responsible for all accounting functions including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and inventory accounting.
  • Provide accounting guidance and support for inventory control, including excess and obsolete inventory reserve analysis.
  • Coordination and participation in physical inventory and cycle counts as required.
  • Analyze product costs and COGS variances, including recommendation of cost estimates models for new products.
  • Participate in the annual budget preparation process, from coordination, generation, monitoring, and submission to parent company.
  • Analyze operational and management processes including system controls’ effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Propose value-added recommendations.
  • Evaluate, apply, and refine policies, procedures, controls, and methodologies.
  • Work to streamline and increase efficiencies in the preparation of financial management information and in the operation procedures of the Finance Department.
  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements.
  • Effectively manage the daily activities of the team to ensure maximized scheduling and real-time utilization of resources.
  • Deliver and manage centralized training to the Accounting Group and other departments as appropriate.
  • Perform technical accounting and research, including project management of the implementation of major accounting standards.
  • Work with external auditors as appropriate.
  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities (e.g., contract review and negotiation, MS Office support to other departments).
  • Respond to ad-hoc financial reporting and accounting queries, leading the approach to research a topic or issue.
  • Must be available outside regular office hours to handle issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal government reporting requirements, tax filings, and other regulatory body reporting requirements.
