CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Experience in the public sector or local government, including two years in a management or supervisory role within a unionized environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in MAIS and Questica software is an asset.
  • Preferred CPA designation or candidate.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and make informed decisions.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and good judgment.
  • Strong time management, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience with unionized staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations and act as Deputy CFO in their absence.
  • Prepare and submit financial reconciliations,
  • Develop and maintain financial spreadsheets for various tracking purposes.
  • Provide support for year-end and audit activities, ensuring confidential recordkeeping.
  • Supervise and mentor Finance Division staff, offering training, development, and performance management.
  • Prepare statutory financial reports, including audited financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with PSAS and DTR bylaws, maintaining accurate accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance on financial control processes and procedures.
  • Work with other departments on accounting policies, systems, and controls.
  • Maintain relationships with provincial agencies, local governments, and regional jurisdictions.
  • Prepare and present financial reports for the Mayor, Council, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend Council meetings and other relevant committees as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
