JOB SUMMARY
The Finance Officer, Business Performance Monitoring and Reporting is responsible for ensuring integrity and consistency in the reporting of corporate results and for providing timely, accurate, and reasoned analyses and insights to inform management’s planning decisions. The Finance Officer leads the development, implementation and tracking of corporate performance reporting systems, analyzes key business metrics and performance trends, and communicates the results to all reporting entities and divisions. The Finance Officer plays a critical role in supporting Hydro Ottawa’s integrated business planning and performance management framework, and improving operational efficiency and effectiveness across the corporation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education, diploma or degree, in Business or Business Administration, Management, Finance, Economics, Social Science, Data Analytics or a similar field.
- Advanced degree (e.g. Master of Business Administration) considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years experience in business performance reporting, data analysis, corporate planning or a related field.
- Experience in the business, administrative, and/or operational functions of a medium to large-scale corporation, municipality, utility, public sector organization, or regulated industry considered an asset.
- Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, time-management and collaboration skills.
- Strong computer skills; proficiency in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools (e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft Office).
- Proficiency in performance management tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools), and/or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g. pivot tables, advanced formulas, VBA) and other data analysis software, considered an asset.
- English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset.
- Professional designation or certification (e.g. CPA, data analytics, Six Sigma, performance management/auditing) considered an asset.
- Experience in team leadership is considered an asset.
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Responsibilities:
- Lead, coordinate and execute corporate planning and performance reporting activities for the Manager, Corporate Planning and Performance Reporting (i.e. quarterly reports to the Board of Directors, Annual Report to the Shareholder, Annual General Meeting, monthly reporting to the Executive Management Team, and Executive Management Team and Board Strategy Sessions).
- Conduct monitoring and reporting of corporate performance and progress on monthly, quarterly and annual cycles.
- Develop, maintain and enhance corporate performance dashboards and reporting tools.
- Collect, analyze and interpret data submitted by all reporting entities and divisions to produce monthly, quarterly and annual performance reports summarizing key trends and insights, and prepare them for submission to senior management, executives and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare variance analyses to compare actual performance against targets, budgets and forecasts, providing context and actionable insights.
- Coordinate the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and ensure alignment with corporate objectives, strategies and initiatives.
- Coordinate with all reporting entities and divisions to constitute, maintain and periodically refresh a comprehensive list of the key business systems from which performance reports are extracted, together with the applicable business, operational, organizational, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics.
- Prepare and validate periodic comparator analyses with utilities in Ontario and elsewhere across Canada for key areas of organizational performance.
- Ensure compliance with established reporting standards and governance frameworks.
- Monitor ongoing business performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of operational and financial performance, highlighting areas for improvement.
- Perform root cause analyses to explain underperformance and propose corrective actions.
- Collaborate with division leaders to refine and track key business metrics, and to develop and implement improvements to planning and reporting processes and deliverables.
- Communicate performance results effectively through presentations and reporting to cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Act as a key liaison between corporate planning, finance, operations and other business units to streamline performance reporting processes.
- Partner with reporting entities and divisions to align performance monitoring efforts with business objectives.
- Remain informed about best practices and emerging tools in business performance monitoring and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to automate and enhance data collection and reporting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in and lead, where appropriate, special projects or strategic initiatives, providing analytical support and data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
- Develop customized reports and presentations to address specific business needs or stakeholder inquiries.
- Conduct research and analysis on economic, business, public policy, technological and ESG trends, as well as best practices in performance measurement.
- Coordinate and support the development and implementation of formalized environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) reporting.
- Provide instruction and guidance to students, and monitor and report on progress on student-assigned engagements.
- Perform other related duties as required.
