Join us as a Financial Accountant to take on the responsibility for the financial reporting including the preparation of financial statements. Your role will also include supporting the Thungela Group Finance team to meet all governance, regulatory and statutory requirements.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
Job Description
You will focus on but not limited to ensuring accurate, timeous submission of the MOP into Ramesys, accurate monthly costing per cost centre as well as ensuring the forecasts are updated and reflect correctly.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in in accounting or related Finance field
- Registered with SAICA /AGA (SA) advantageous
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 4 years in a financial reporting, month end close and forecasting field
- Minimum 2 years in Finance Management at a Hospital (advantageous)
- Previous experience in a Coal Mine environment (advantageous)

Responsibilities:
- Completing the financial submissions that adhere to the Thungela accounting policies and are in line with the relevant accounting standards
- Ensuring financial information is loaded into SAP or other financial reporting system in a timely and accurate manner on a monthly basis
- Assisting in the preparation of budget, forecast and MOP information for selected head office or operational entities, including requesting information from relevant stakeholders
- Preparing additional reports as required, including those related to subsidiaries and other investments, information related to the MOP process and other ad-hoc requests
- Performing ad-hoc analysis as required on significant transactions, identification and reporting of trends and unusual movements as well as SAP reconciliations and clear reconciling items wile interrogating the data and other admin functions
- Processing and reviewing journal entries to align intercompany and other accounts with supporting documentation
- Developing or enhancing forecast templates for financial reporting system uploads
- Reconciling financial systems to ensure accurate mapping and loading (SAP, HFM, Ramesys etc.)
- Oversee the completeness and accuracy of payments of accounts payables and accounts receivables
- Perform and review stock counts of pharmacy stock and consumables.
- Raise and approve purchase requisitions according to the company supply chain policies
- Review balance sheet reconciliations
- Perform month end duties and close off income statement items
- balance all the balance sheet line items and ensure reconciliation are performed and reviewed in the required time
