About the Position

The Financial Accounting Manager is a leadership role within the Control and General Accounting team and is responsible for the statutory reporting and general accounting oversight including but not limited to:

  • Management of all financial audits and related internal and external audit programs
  • Maintain the financial risk management framework
  • Oversee the delivery of project accounting, expense audits, and all other accounting activities undertaken by direct reports
  • Monitoring of the management and audit of the internal financial controls including preparation of financial statements, management of statutory reporting and audit.

As Financial Accounting Manager, you will manage the provision of accurate, high-quality financial information pertaining to RMIT financials and divisional/group performance ensuring that information is compliant with both internal and external accounting and statutory reporting requirements.
You have a strong in-depth technical knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and other relevant reporting and account standards relating to governance, risk management and the test of policies and process.
You have what is required to analyse risk frameworks, potential for fraud and ability to effectively communicate outcomes of each audit assignments while making recommendations to redesign process/procedure and/or improvement of accounting systems, policies and processes along with identifying solutions that will enhance controls to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
You will build and manage good working relationships with other teams and stakeholders to develop cross functional relationships and lend expertise in statutory financial reporting and general accounting matters to minimise risk, support the evaluation of business financial controls and the undertaking of audits.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Significant experience in financial accounting/auditing including in statutory reporting within complex organisational matrices and/or global/group environments.
  • Strong leadership skills, proven resource and people management capability including a continuous improvement mindset and demonstrated ability to build effective high-performance teams.
  • An excellent track record of solving complex and/or technical issues using a variety of innovative approaches to drive culture, sound decision making, change, high performance/results, risk management, customer and stakeholder experience.
  • Excellent track record of commitment to and successful delivery of high-quality outputs within strict deadlines (organisational and time management skills)
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the University and with external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, compliance and results.
  • Highly developed business acumen, a willingness to challenge the status quo, analytical, insight generation with strong self-development skills, keeping up to date with changing reporting and compliance frameworks and anticipating, planning for and implementing changes, with appropriate risk management.

Qualifications
A relevant tertiary qualification and must have membership of a professional association (CA/CPA).
