The Department of Finance and Corporate Services is seeking an energetic team player with sharp problem-solving abilities, excellent analytical and investigatory skills, high attention to detail, effective organizational and time- management skills, and comfort working both independently as well as part of a team on a part-time basis.
Reporting to the Senior Financial Analyst – Corporate Reporting, this position will assist with the processing, monitoring, reporting, and analysis of donations, grants and investment activities. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the compliance, accuracy and integrity of financial reporting related to donations and investments portfolio, in addition to the provision of quality client service to various key areas of NAIT.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong accounting knowledge and experience is essential, particularly Canada Revenue Agency guidance around gifts and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) related to grants, funding sources, donations, and deferred revenue.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Self-starter with excellent attention to detail, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with different members of the NAIT community.
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (preference for pivots and other advanced functions).
- Proficiency with various software applications (preference for experience in PeopleSoft Finance, Microsoft 365 applications, Salesforce).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-year Accounting Diploma
- Minimum of 2 years experience in an intermediate accounting position, post-diploma, is essential.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in public sector or educational environments.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $28,966.47 - $36,764.00 annually (based on 18 hours per week), plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Finance/Accounting Assistant II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Senior Financial Analyst in maintaining NAIT’s chart of account structure in its financial system, which includes tree maintenance, creation and inactivation of accounts, departments, funds, etc.
- Assist the Senior Financial Analyst in maintaining NAIT’s investment portfolio, includes prepare and post monthly transactions and reconciliation of various investment accounts, schedules.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to donations, grants, and other external funding.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of data migrated from the fundraising system to the financial system, and prepare account reconciliations, including investigation, analysis, and correction of discrepancies.
- Assist and perform various month-end, quarter-end and year-end duties related to donations, grants, investments, etc.
- Track donations, grants, and other restricted funds within the financial system, ensuring compliance with donor restrictions and reporting requirements.
- Maintain compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and institutional policies.
- Participate in continuous process reviews and improvements.
- Perform Ad hoc duties, analysis and reporting as needed.
