Statement of Job Purpose The Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the execution of the operations of the Financial Services Department. Reporting to the Assistant Secretary Treasurer, the Financial Analyst performs various duties to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting of the District to the Board of Trustees, the Ministry of Education and Child Care, and other government agencies. The financial analyst also supports the contract administration activities of the School District. Financial Responsibilities · Provide support in the efficient execution of accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with internal controls and Board Policy · Prepares financial reports and statements to the Ministry of Education and Child Care, funding agencies and the Board of Education, including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting · Performs various financial analysis including year-end financial statements and audit working papers · Manages and monitors all special purpose funds, including budgeting and forecasting · Provides support on the year end audit process · Conducts internal audits to ensure compliance with district policies and procedures · Prepares monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc account analysis and reconciliation, including journal entries · Assists with the preparation of financial reports as required by senior leadership and the Board · Assists in the annual internal school audits · Responds to inquiries in a timely manner · Fosters an environment of collaboration and strong customer service culture · Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Secretary Treasurer Contract Administration · Monitors insurance transactions and risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are minimized · Provides support in contract management and negotiation · Assists in ensuring that all legal and contractual obligations of the School District are met regarding purchasing policies, processes, and practices · Assists in the preparation of specifications and tendering documents and the acquisition of a variety of materials, equipment, construction projects, leases and service agreements · Assists in researching, monitoring, and evaluating industry trends and suppliers including district spending trends, to recommend areas for potential savings Qualifications · Professional accounting designation CPA or nearing completion of the CPA designation with demonstrated knowledge with Public Sector Accounting Standards · A minimum of three (3) years of progressive working knowledge in accounting/finance and contract management, preferably within a large public sector or educational institution · Excellent organization skills and attention to details, including the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines · Good knowledge of accounting and finance principles, and legal and contractual language · Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills · Good working knowledge of Public Purchasing Practices including tendering and issuing of Requests for Proposals and procurement and supply chain principles and practices · Strong analytical, problem solving and technical skills and ability to exercise good and sound judgement · Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong focus on customer service · Strong leadership abilities What We Offer Competitive salary and total compensation package.
