Description:

THE ANTICIPATED DURATION OF THIS ASSIGNMENT IS APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS.

The Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Business Service Center was formed to provide centralized financial transactional processing, purchasing, reconciliations, financial reporting, budget development and budget management to the direct offices of the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Outreach (VCD&O), the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVC&P) and the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor of Ethics and Compliance. These services are also provided to the subunits of the VCD&O, EVC&P and the Office of Ethics and Compliance, e.g. the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Program (IACUP), the Academic Affairs, the Academic Senate and the Campus Library.
As a key member of the Business Service Center team, this position will assist the Director in overseeing the financial management for various untis as assigned. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the department by providing ongoing financial monitoring of the units’ funds budget variance, expense reporting and projections. This position requires the highest level of ethics and professional standards to handle highly sensitive matters with Tact and sound judgment. It has a high level of independence and requires a comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures in the area of finance and budget analysis as well as procurement.
Involves developing, interpreting and implementing financial concepts for financial planning, resource planning (dollars), and control of organizational budget. May analyze and prepare recommendations for financial plans, including annual resource allocations, future requirements, and operating forecasts. The Financial Analyst uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in a creative and practical manner. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Contacts are both internal and external to the department.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

UCSF’s Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in related area and three years of experience, and/or equivalent experience/training; thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems; ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments; proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner; proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports; proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail; proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment; ability to adapt to changing priorities; ability to function as a member of a team. Preferred Qualifications: experience using UCSF Accounting Systems such as MyExpense, Bear Buy, and PeopleSoft; thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
