POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for preparing quarterly financial reporting requirements and presentation to theFoundation Board; Audit preparation in coordination with the VCC Finance Office and Foundation appointedAuditors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration, and currently pursuingcertified professional accounting designation.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities

  • Sound knowledge of restricted fund accounting principles, practices, terminology and bankingprocedures are mandatory.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment using the restricted fund method of accounting, and familiarity with current legislation effecting charities and/or a post-secondary environment preferred.
  • Experience in accounting for investments, including market value adjustments. Attention to detail is required, as are superior organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical, organizational and exemplary communication skills and the ability to meet strictdeadlines are required.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills are necessary, particularly with Excel, preferably with experience using vlookup function and pivot tables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all members of the College and
  • VCC Foundation stakeholders including Foundation Executive Director, vendors, donors andvolunteers.
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and Banner/FAST software is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares annual budget for review by the Manager, Finance, Data and Systems and Foundation Executive Director and approval by Board.
  • Prepares various tax requirements including HST/GST returns, and the annual Registered Charity Information Return.
  • Handles all aspects of accounts payable, accounts receivable, preparing journal entries and postings to the general ledger.
  • Processes data entry of cash/credit card receipts, issuing donation receipts, and preparing bank deposits.
  • Verifies and processes invoices and other disbursements for payment on a timely basis.
  • Prepares monthly endowment and project fund balances.
  • Reconciles portfolio transactions and provides quarterly remittances to external investment counsel.
  • Maintains monthly recurring batches from Raiser’s Edge, monthly credit card giving and bank account reconciliation.
  • Issues charitable tax and business receipts.
  • Prepares annual Gaming license and administration of all lotteries and related reporting.
  • Provides advice and guidance to the Manager, Finance, Data and Systems and Foundation Executive Director on the appropriate annual disbursement quota and status of the VCC endowment.
  • Provides fund balances for flow-through, project funds and awards to VCC Financial Aid, Faculty.
  • Provides reports, as requested, to the Director of the Foundation.
  • Enters gifts into the Raiser’s Edge database and ensures tax receipts are issued in a timely way.
  • Monitors annual donor active pledges and annual contributions (i.e., Awards).
  • Processes WebReqs through the VCC Finance system.
  • Assists with the update of the database with donor information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
