JOB SUMMARY

The mission of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is to advance the public’s health through learning, discovery and communication. To pursue the mission, the school produces knowledge through research then translates this knowledge into evidence that can be communicated to the public, policymakers, and practitioners to advance the health of populations.
The Francois Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights is a University-wide center that conducts rigorous investigation of the most serious threats to health and well- being globally. The Center was established 30 years ago to promote the idea that health is threatened when people are denied or deprived of their rights. We work closely with scholars, students, the international policy community, and civil society to engage in ongoing strategic efforts to promote equity and dignity, especially for the marginalized and oppressed around the world

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Grants and Finance Associate is an integral part of the FXB Center, working in close partnership with the financial leadership of the Center. They are a primary resource for supporting fiscal, administrative and regulatory management of a portfolio of grants, contracts and sponsored programs from award receipt through closeout. These grants may include federal government (e.g. NIH, EPA, DoD), foundations, industry, and international contracts from foreign entities.The Grants and Finance Associate is also responsible for ensuring smooth financial transactions related to expenses against the FXB Center’s endowment and other gift funds.
This position provides support for the department’s financial team.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing a small portfolio of sponsored and non-sponsored funds
  • Providing advice to faculty and staff on policies and procedures related to the assigned portfolio
  • Managing accounts payable and purchasing under sponsored and non-sponsored funds
  • Providing advice to faculty and staff on account payable and purchasing proocedures and policy
  • Assist Center finance directors, as needed, with pre/post award administration, including budget and proposal preparation and electronic upload to the central office
  • Assist with post-award, including preparation of monthly internal financial reports and salary distributions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PLEASE NOTE: This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position with a schedule of 28 hour/week.
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of one year after the hire date with the possibility of extension.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of related experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially excel and word
  • Experience with Harvard financial systems strongly preferred
  • Works well independently and handles confidential information with discretion
  • High level of initiative and motivation
  • Experience being proactive, friendly, and confident in dealing with faculty and staff
  • Strong communication skills
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and use judgement regarding confidential or sensitive information
  • Personal interest in supporting high level intellectual work of academic professionals and appreciates the mission of the FXB Center for Health & Human Rights
