THE ROLE IS BASED ON A HYBRID APPROACH IN OUR NEWPORT OR CARDIFF OFFICES, BUT WE DO ALSO CONSIDER REMOTE WORKING SO WELCOME APPLICATIONS FROM ACROSS THE UK.
As the Financial Crime Escalations Officer, you assist the business in delivering robust financial crime systems and controls across all products including mortgages, loans and investments.
You’re a key member within the First Line Financial Crime Team and you will proactively support the business in delivering accurate and effective financial crime services to its Clients. You will provide support and guidance to other members of the team on topics such as Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), sanctions and adverse media alerts as well as other types of suspicious activity. You will initially be responsible for handling escalations for a remediation exercise with the view to expand to other workstreams.
You will use your extensive understanding of relevant legislation to propose timely and pragmatic recommendations to escalations, to appropriately manage financial crime risk. You will also support the Financial Crime Manager in identifying training needs of the team and aid in the delivery of training as well as identifying trends in customer activity.
SOME OF THE DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Perform screening for PEPs, Sanctions and Adverse media via an automated screening tool within SLA.
- Complete appropriate research in order to determine whether the alert generated is a true match, ensuring this research and decisions made are thoroughly documented.
- Review escalations from other members of the team where they have been unable to discount or confirm a match.
- Provide timely and accurate advice to colleagues regarding sanctions escalations.
- Assessing alerts on a risk-based approach where limited information is available.
- Promptly escalate true matches to senior management with recommendations on how to proceed.
- Ensure reviews are completed in a timely manner to avoid having a negative impact on customers and client processes.
- Work to tight deadlines and deploy effective communication in order to manage expectations of clients and senior stakeholders.
