Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Risk Management or Business Controls experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of Management experienc

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive Control Management, transformation, and financial crimes risk management experience
  • Outstanding executive communication skills, both written and verbal, with a track record of presenting to senior leaders and to management committees
  • Front-line risk and controls experience, including overseeing/driving development of controls and management information (i.e., dashboards and workflow) and risk prioritization and enterprise program implementation
  • Proven experience designing efficient control frameworks across complex and multijurisdictional regulatory frameworks and engagement with regulatory agencies
  • Substantial experience executing risk management programs, particularly operational risk programs (e.g., issue management and RCSA) and managing compliance and conduct risks
  • Strong judgment and confidence in decision-making in support of management risk tolerance in response to real-time situations, including conflict resolution and application of corporate values
  • Collaborator and team player, able to translate prior business knowledge and experience into strong and productive relationships internally and externally to achieve goals and meet responsibilities
  • Self-starter with a working knowledge of risk management fundamentals and translation of policy into operational controls

Responsibilities:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Control Management Director to join the Enterprise Functions Control Management organization with horizontal impact across Control Management in the management of financial crimes risks and regulatory transformation.
The leader will be responsible for driving coordination of key financial crimes risk management priorities and programs, including risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies, control design/implementation, and other control activities across Control Management. This includes managing a team of risk professionals responsible for supporting BSA/AML transformation activities and overseeing connectivity across control programs and teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership support to cross-Control Management coordination of BSA/AML transformation activities. Continuously engage in discussions with line of business and Control Management partners on strategy, industry trends, organizational changes, and new/modified market opportunities, systems, and services to determine impact, provide guidance, and identify and remediate risk and control issues across financial crimes.
  • Serve as an escalation point for all Risk and Control issues across financial crimes and be the central point of contact for Risk/Control Programs and ensure consistency across regulatory commitments.
  • Partner across Regulatory Execution, Risk Transformation Execution, Regulatory Relations, Deliverable Owners, and Control Partners to drive a consistent Control Management engagement model supporting financial crimes regulatory issues management/closure.
  • Counsel functional leaders and Control partners on risk and control issues including corrective action/deliverable consistency, closure, and validation preparedness.
  • Lead and develop a team with a strong working knowledge of financial crimes and key risks and controls that apply to the function. To serve as the primary day-to-day risk and control contacts with proven knowledge of services, processes, systems, and customers in the function.
  • Participate in/assist in the coordination of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) for financial crimes risk and provide guidance to RAU Owners, business leaders, and Control partners through detailed risk and control evaluations for alignment with program and transformation requirements.
  • Establish and update regular risk reports for communication of financial crimes risk ratings, issues and key topics to key stakeholders and relevant Governance Committees.
  • Act as the key point of contact for senior leaders in Corporate Risk, Enterprise Functions Control Management, IRM, Wells Fargo Audit, regulators, and other constituents; ensure that all inquiries are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and risk control development by overseeing strategy and execution of all activities.
  • Lead Business Controls team by making strategic decisions to resolve highly complex issues by ensuring all process weaknesses or gaps are identified and remediation plans are supported and acted upon.
  • Collaborate with and influence business, Control Management, Independent Risk Management leaders, Legal, audit, and regulators.
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and aligned with strategic objectives in Business Controls functional area.
  • Develop and guide a culture of Business Controls talent development to meet business objectives and strategies.
  • Lead the team with integrity and create an environment where your team members feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.
