The vision for the Department of Psychiatry is to be the acknowledged Centre of Excellence for psychiatric care and discovery in South Western Ontario with a mission to translate clinical research into treatment and provide regional consultation within interdisciplinary models of care.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree with a major in Business Management/Accounting
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in progress preferred
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in the management of complex financial accounts
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of financial analysis and planning practices
- Familiarity with financial guidelines for research accounts
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Knowledge of report writing software used to prepare financial reports
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Analytical skills to accurately interpret and integrate report data from various sources
- Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Ability to collect and discern relevant data to create reports and recommendations

Responsibilities:
The Financial Officer is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient financial administration, and for providing financial, accounting, and budgetary support within the department. The role will facilitate the implementation of financial processes and practices in compliance with the policies, procedures, and legislation applicable to the University, Hospitals, Research Institute, and AFP Governance organizations, which affect physician clinical and non-clinical remuneration. The Financial Officer will compile relevant data, and conduct timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting. The role will be a first point of contact and act as a resource in relation to all accounting, financial, procurement and budgeting processes for the department as funds cross institutional boundaries and affect operating and grant funding.
