GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position will partner with the Individual and Group Disability Benefits teams to ensure Unum practices and policies result in accurate benefit calculations and payments.
This position will provide expert financial analyses, risk recommendations and solutions.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in accounting/finance or equivalent
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Other acceptable professional certifications (MACC, MBA, CFE, CIA, etc.) are considered.
  • Three or more years of relevant tax preparation experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of various business entities (sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporations) and how related business expenses are treated in each for tax purposes.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and the ability to work with several computer tools is desired.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a focus on high quality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral are essential for this position.
  • Customer oriented with a focus and desire to provide excellent customer service is critical.

    The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
    $53,300.00-$95,900.00
    Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. Responsibilities:

  • Supports the benefits team in determining the financial documentation required to accurately calculate disability benefits.
  • Serves as an expert resource in providing review of financial data such as complex payroll, business tax returns, employment agreements and Profit and Loss Statements to accurately determine pre-disability and post-disability income levels of business owners, physicians, attorneys, and other high earning individuals.
  • Analyzes and reconciles the provided financial information to determine if disability benefits were paid correctly.
  • Collaborates with external and internal parties to consult on matters such as explanation of benefit calculations, calculation disputes, and earnings definitions.
  • Mentors and supports peers on complex financial reviews to enhance their financial acumen.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
