Our Thunder Bay location is hiring a Fire Assay Technician to work 12 hour 4 days on 4 days off rotational shifts.
This is an entry-level position and is given direction by the shift Team Lead. The Fire Assay Technician works under supervision in the Fire Assay area and is responsible for maintaining some of the tools and instruments being used in the operation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School Diploma Required.
  • General Labourer experience an asset
  • Good hand eye coordination and the ability to stand for long periods
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to work in a positive manner in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a consistent basis and perform work in a hot and dusty environment
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe accurate timely manner
  • MUST be able to wear a respirator and other PPE properly
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Must be flexible to work day shifts on a 4 days on 4 days off rotation

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a safe, efficient manner and follow all health and safety protocols
  • Liaise with supervisor on work order priorities
  • Set up fusion batches
  • Sort and clean pots; Sort and dry cupels
  • Perform Fire Assay Techniques, such as fluxing, fusing, de-slagging and cupelling of samples according to standard operating procedures
  • Maintain Quality Control and production log
  • Properly dispose of crucibles, cupels and fire assay lead waste residues
  • Conduct QC inspections of samples, crucibles, buttons and beads
  • Follow all quality protocols and report discrepancies to the Supervisor
  • May be asked to work in other areas of the geochemistry laboratory sections when required
  • Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis
