We are looking for a Fire Protection Manager!

Role
The Manger will be responsible for managing the day to day activities for the group, including all technical guidance, utilization, scheduling, project management, designing, implementing and overseeing fire protection systems to ensure the safety of buildings and their occupants.
Responsibilities
Business Development
- Work with Business Development to ensure effective and informed communication to prospective clients
- Develop new clients and maintain existing clients
- Report lead pipeline of potential work to President
- Approve all Proposals and Fee Letters
- Explore opportunities for value added services and new markets
General Management
- Approve all hires and terminations within Production
- Assist with interviewing new employees for other Sections and Divisions, as requested
- Attend, prepare for, and participate in the monthly budget variance meeting
- Attend, prepare for, and participate in the Weekly Management meeting
- Complete action items noted on the Management Meeting monitoring log
- Contribute to the Issues List, identifying issues that not only affect Production but may impact the organization as a whole
- Ensure that all direct reports are scheduling their workload appropriately, maximizing productive time and allowing all employees to meet Management’s expectations
- Provide insightful and enthusiastic leadership, paying attention to employee morale
- Sit in on all performance reviews conducted by direct reports
- Work with the Heads of all functional areas to solve inter-departmental problems
Production
- Review and seal Fire Protection drawings.
- Act as the next level of escalation from the Management level for client and staff issues
- Actively pursues training
- Assemble, via an Assistant, the Master Production Schedule and ensure that all supporting schedules are being completed as per procedure
- Assist with preparation of the Production Report weekly identifying relevant trends
- Coordination and communication between Production Divisions and branch offices to support transfer of work when necessary
- Ensure company procedures are being followed by all Production personnel
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and design standards
- Establish Fees Schedules in conjunction with the President and the Division Heads
- Facilitate coordination and communication among Production Divisions to support smooth day-to-day operations and improvement activities
- Follows quality control procedures
- Ensure that all projects within the Section are staying on track and on schedule.
- Inform Principals of any upcoming scheduling issues in other departments
- Lead the creation of the Production contribution to the company fiscal budget
- Member of Management Committee (provide oversight, set targets/budgets for President, departments, Directors, respond to trends, review compensation)
- Monitor actual performance against the estimate and take action as required to bring production back on schedule, working with the Principals
- Monitor Production Utilization & Efficiency and lead any necessary corrective action
- Participate in all company strategic planning sessions
- Develop detailed fire protection and life safety system designers, including fire alarm systems and, sprinkler systems.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for systems.
- Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications and reports.
- Attend design and coordination meetings.
- Check drawings for quality control using checklist.
- Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards.
- Coordinate work with other disciplines including Mechanical, Architectural, Structural and Interior Design.
- Design systems in accordance with OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and/or other relevant Codes and Standards.
- Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions.
- Prepare CCN and SI, as required.
- Prepare detailed equipment room layouts including sections.
- Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required during construction.
Skills & Qualifications
- Licensed P. Eng in Province of Ontario in good standing
- A demonstrated ability to work under pressure
- Ability to coach and mentor direct reports
- Ability to think independently
- Able to represent the company at social and networking functions
- At least 10 years’ experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
- At least 5 years’ experience in a senior management role
- Experience with Fire Protection Systems
- Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
- Engineering Degree
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent people management skills
- Excellent presentation skills - comfortable speaking in client/project meetings
- Excellent technical abilities
- Systems oriented - able to review, revise and create process changes within the Production Department
- Experience with Windows and general computer skills
- Familiar with OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and other relevant Codes and Standards
Excellent AutoCAD skills
