Description:

The Fire Safety Supervisor at Vancouver Shipyards is responsible for ensuring the fire safety of all personnel and property in vessel construction. They will work to identify potential fire hazards and to develop strategies to prevent and mitigate them. This will include participating in the development of fire safety training and related programs, inspection of fire and life safety equipment, evaluation/auditing of hot work practices, and supporting the strategic planning of fire suppression and prevention systems as vessels reach full consolidation.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of vessels to identify potential fire hazards, inspect fire safety equipment and verify adherence to applicable standards and work processes.
  • Work with Ship Management to correct deficiencies and assist in the planning and implementation of preventative measures.
  • Review and update fire safety plans to ensure that compliance with all legal and regulatory compliance requirements is maintained.
  • Provide safety training to stakeholders on fire safety practices. Educate workers in the field about potential hazards and controls related to fire risk.
  • Provide training to Fire Watch personnel to carry out Fire Prevention/ fire watch duties throughout the stages of ship construction.
  • Administer daily toolbox talks and work orders to the Fire Watch team.
  • Support the HSE and Services Managers in planning, executing, and improving fire and emergency preparedness.
  • Provide input and strategic direction on processes and training associated with the risk of fire.
  • Participate and facilitate investigations relating to incidents and emergencies stemming from fires and fire-related events.
  • Assist in the training, planning, and coordination of Seaspan’s Fire Brigade and Confined Space Emergency Response Team. Working with contractors to facilitate certified training.
  • Ensure operability of monitor panels and systems used to manage internal alarm and suppression systems.
  • Restructure ERT training program, carry out quarterly confined space rescue drills, oversee the development of Emergency Response Roster.
  • Working alongside Safety Admin in the auditing process for all Emergency Response members – Ensuring training is up-to-date and compliant with WorkSafe requirements.
  • Scheduling Fire Response and Emergency Response Personnel in conjunction with production needs.
  • Inventory, track, and maintain emergency response rescue gear, facilitate purchasing of new equipment.
  • Create an asset tracking system of high valued emergency response gear through Hilti tracking system.
  • Work with the Fire Rescue Lead to organize joint training exercises with emergency response agencies throughout the north shore.
