QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical diploma or degree in a related discipline or a combination of education and technical experience.
  • Experience using sprinkler system design software (required)
  • Familiar with the industry’s concepts, terminology, best-practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14 & 10 (including sway-brace calculations) and codes governing the design and installation of fire protection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret codes, technical specifications and building construction drawings including fire protection, architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to clearly communicate, in writing and verbally, with all project stakeholders
  • Works efficiently to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings (both architectural and structural), specifications, and contracts.
  • Design and layout sprinkler systems in accordance with current standards.
  • Apply applicable NFPA standards based on the building type, construction type, hazard classification and architectural features.
  • Prepare schematics and specifications pertinent to fire protection design.
  • Fire pump system design and specification.
  • Perform sprinkler design and pipe-sizing using specific design software.
  • Provide sprinkler head specification details on the drawings.
  • Acquire CAD files in electronic form (if applicable) from the appropriate source (ex: architect, engineer, etc.)
  • Participate in project meetings with project managers & other trades for project coordination
  • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components and perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Review work order and procedural manuals to determine critical dimensions of design.
  • Complete a field check to verify the accuracy of the final design.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure integrity and completeness of drawings (and subsequently, work)
  • Provide material list for fabrication and/or a purchase list.
  • Calculate figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions specified for subsequent production.
  • Create submittal packages of designed systems utilizing the manufacturer’s datasheets.
  • Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
  • Create and maintain project folders for jobs (include a site book/binder for project managers and foremen)
  • Maintain clear/detailed client communication records, revisions of drawings, etc.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures set by Escape Fire Protection.
  • Other duties as assigned.
