We are looking for a Fire Sprinkler Designer!

Role
The designer will be responsible for designing, implementing and overseeing fire protection and sprinkler systems to ensure the safety of buildings and their occupants.
Responsibilities
Business Development
- Build key customer relationships with new and existing clients.
- Manage existing clients to ensure ongoing satisfaction and retain business.
- Identify business opportunities, generate leads, and seek out partnerships.
- Attend general industry events.
General Management
- Keep Lead apprised of activities.
- Lead by example, following proper procedures.
- Participate in training courses as requested.
- Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff.
- Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time.
- Train and motivate other staff.
Production
- Develop detailed sprinkler, fire protection and life safety system designers, including fire alarm systems and, sprinkler systems.
- Survey site conditions, categorize fire hazard index and prepare drawings of existing fire sprinkler systems.
- Evaluation of hazards, commodities, storage and fire sprinkler systems for design criteria, compliance and adequacy of water supply.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and standpipe systems (HYDRACALC).
- Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications and reports.
- Prepare detailed equipment room layouts including sections.
- Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required during construction.
- Attend design and coordination meetings.
- Check drawings for quality control using checklist.
- Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards.
- Coordinate work with other disciplines including Mechanical, Architectural, Structural and Interior Design.
- Create working drawings with AutoCAD, (experience with REVIT is an asset).
- Design systems in accordance with OBC, NFPA and/or other relevant Codes and Standards.
- Maintain design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company Project Management Standards.
- Monitor and manage project progress and performance.
- Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions.
- Prepare CCN and SI, as required.
- Report to Group Lead, Tenant Services any project related quality, speed or scheduling issue.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience with designing sprinkler and standpipe systems, fire pumps and water supplies for commercial, data centers, industrial and post-secondary education projects.
- Knowledge of NFPA (13, 13D, 13R, 14, 20) and fire pumps.
- Familiar with OBC and NFPA, and other relevant Codes and Standards as they relate to sprinkler design
- Experience with HYDRACALC
- Excellent AutoCAD skills
- Engineering Technologies Certificate or Mechanical Engineering Degree
- Experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
- Experience with Fire Protection and Sprinkler Systems
- Conduct hydrant flow tests, as required
- Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
- Experience with Windows and general computer skills
- Detail-oriented
- Excellent time management and organizational skills

- Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
- Driving license and own vehicle, ability to visit job sites throughout Southern Ontario
