REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-5 years’ experience diagnosing, maintenance and repair work on firefighting apparatuses, fire engines, ladder trucks, and rescue vehicles.
  • Must be knowledgeable of NFPA 1901 and NFPA 1911
  • Have a good working knowledge of Customer Chassis and Commercial Diesel Chassis systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle issues.
  • Knowledge of automotive systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, HVAC, and suspension.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, software, and equipment.
  • Willing to do field work and pump testing with a company supplied service truck.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • ASE certifications or equivalent are a plus.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The SVT Firetruck Technician is integral to ensuring the operational readiness and reliability of firefighting apparatuses, including fire engines, ladder trucks, and rescue vehicles. Their essential functions encompass the inspection, maintenance, and repair of specialized equipment onboard these vehicles, such as pumps, hoses, aerial devices, and communication systems. They meticulously inspect and test each component to guarantee optimal performance during emergencies. Fire Vehicle Technicians also conduct routine servicing to address wear and tear, diagnose mechanical issues, and execute repairs swiftly to minimize downtime. Their purpose is to uphold the functionality of fire vehicles, enabling firefighters to respond effectively to emergencies and protect lives and property.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting thorough inspections of fire vehicles to identify any mechanical, electrical, or structural issues that may affect their performance during emergencies.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and lubrication to keep vehicles in optimal operating condition.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on fire vehicles, including engines, pumps, transmission systems, and electrical components.
  • Conducting regular testing and calibration of critical firefighting equipment such as pumps, hoses, aerial devices, and communication systems to ensure they meet operational standards.
  • Maintaining detailed records and work orders of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment testing to track vehicle history and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Providing on-site support and assistance during emergency situations, including troubleshooting, and repairing vehicle issues to ensure they are ready for immediate deployment.
  • Staying updated on advancements in firefighting vehicle technology and attending training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Ensuring that fire vehicles adhere to safety regulations and standards set by relevant authorities, including conducting safety checks and implementing necessary modifications or upgrades.
