Description:

DETAILS

  • Department: Cardiac Heart Center
  • Schedule: Rotating 10-hour shifts 6:30AM-5PM Monday - Friday. Daily, weekend & holiday on-call shifts/assignments shared equally among the team of assistants.
  • Hospital: Ascension Medical Group, clinic
  • Location: 10590 N. Meridian Carme, IN
    CSFA certification highly preferred.. Experience first assisting in cardiac surgery along with vein (EVH) harvesting skills strongly preferred. Radial (ERH) harvesting skills also preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate’s degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities:

Provides direct assistance to surgeon during surgical procedures.

  • Position patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation.
  • Utilize appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems.
  • Assist in room clean up and the removal of the soiled case cart, supplies, and trash from OR room as needed at the completion of the surgical case.
  • Participate as a surgical team member in the preparation of the surgical suite according to surgeon’s preference cards with appropriate instruments, resources and supplies.
