Position Summary: The First Press Operator is a key member of our production team, responsible for operating and maintaining our state-of-the-art printing press, a Komori 40S, 6-colour/coater. This role is crucial in ensuring that Simpson Print delivers the highest quality printed materials to our clients, on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial printing and packaging, with a strong focus on quality control, efficiency, and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a First Press Operator in a commercial printing environment with equipment such as Komori, Heidelberg, Man-Rowland, etc.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in operating and maintaining various types of printing presses. Strong understanding of color theory, ink formulation, and print quality standards.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for color accuracy, print quality, and overall product consistency. Ability to detect and correct issues proactively.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve press-related issues efficiently.
  • Teamwork: Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team. Willingness to assist others and share knowledge.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Adaptability: Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in a pressroom environment with exposure to noise and chemicals.

Responsibilities:

  • Press Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate the printing press to produce high-quality print products according to job specifications.
  • Quality Control: Monitor production runs, ensuring that products meet or exceed quality standards. Perform color matching, register adjustments, and inspect output for consistency.
  • Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance on the press to ensure optimal performance. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. Ensure proper handling and storage of inks, solvents, and other pressroom materials.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the pressroom supervisor, prepress, and finishing departments to ensure seamless workflow and timely delivery of jobs. Communicate effectively about job status, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Efficiency: Maximize press efficiency by minimizing waste, optimizing make-ready times, and adhering to production schedules. Proactively suggest process improvements to enhance productivity.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete production logs, maintenance records, and quality control reports. Ensure all job tickets are properly filled out and followed.
