We are looking for RMO’s interested in gaining experience and skills in Intensive care unit. These posts are based in Hutt Hospital and provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to gain experience in both ICU and anaesthesia. Hutt Hospital has expanded its intensive care services with a new tier of registrars/SHOs. The job opportunity is for 6 months with a possibility of extension for up to a year. Whilst the primary responsibility is always to ICU, RMO’s will have the opportunity to spend time in operating theatres learning anaesthesia skills under direct supervision of an Anaesthetic SMO (one week in seven, depending on leave and sickness). They will be able to learn airways skills, invasive monitoring, vascular access and perioperative management of patients. This post is recognised for foundation training in Intensive care by the CICM, and by the colleges of medicine and emergency medicine, and will provide the RMO with valuable anaesthesia experience. The post is not recognised for training in anaesthesia. There is an opportunity for the RMO to do 6 months of ICU and 6 months in Emergency medicine and this will be discussed with the ICU director at the time of appointment.
RMO salaries are calculated based on relevant previous years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out in the relevant run description. For the current salary bands, please refer to either the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (SToNZ) or Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) Multi-Employer Collective Agreements.
