The City’s Fleet Maintenance Services is one of the most diverse and integrated municipal fleet operations in Canada! Fleet Services ensures that over 5,000 City vehicles, transit buses and essential City operations equipment are well maintained, safe, and reliable for use on a daily basis.
Fleet Maintenance Planners are responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of comprehensive maintenance and servicing plans assigned to City owned and External fleet assets which are managed by the Municipal Fleet Maintenance section. Incumbents are responsible for the development and implementation of plans that achieve maintenance and repair objectives for the fleet that utilizes resources and facilities in an effective and efficient manner. This role has a high impact on garage efficiency, assets life cycle and customer downtime.
This role will also be involved in KPI monitoring and continuous improvement projects which will measure and improve overall service delivery. This will assist the area to ensure that services provided are efficient, effective and aligned with industry standards.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

  • Thorough knowledge of lean methodologies, industry standards, and implementation processes that influence capacity planning
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety standards and legislation, and industry best practices that impact operations
  • Experience in utilizing a variety of forecasting tools, data management and financial systems to drive continuous improvements
  • Excellent customer service skills through the fundamental understanding of each client’s business needs and the interrelationships between demand and capacity
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to provide fact-based recommendations to stakeholders as a subject matter expert
  • Adaptive communication style that includes technical writing skills, as well as verbal/written communication abilities that will meet the needs of a broader audience
  • Financial acumen to deliver accurate forecasts and analysis to drive decision making and support our client group
  • Team player with the ability to share knowledge and provide leadership and coaching
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance fundamentals, hierarchy and regulatory requirements that apply within a fleet maintenance environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan and control multiple concurrent activities

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Heavy Equipment Technician or Automotive Service Technician Journeyman Certificate as per Gov.of Alberta, Advanced Ed. & Technology
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in many aspects of vehicle and equipment fleet maintenanc

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement maintenance, bill of materials & repair plans for the entire fleet
  • Develop standard labor estimates for maintenance and repair activities
  • Collaborate with Capacity Planner & Scheduler to optimize maintenance schedules
  • Ensure all maintenance forms comply with OEM and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee maintenance/recall campaigns issued by vendors
  • Identify opportunities to optimize PM inspections and improve KPIs
  • Conduct garage visits, respond to inquiries, and participate in meetings
  • Implement strategies to enhance maintenance programming effectiveness
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies within operational garages
  • Supports the development of operational budgets and targets
