Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for several permanent full-time positions of Fleet Trades Person - Truck and Transport Mechanic with Corporate Fleet, Property, Fleet & Environment.

Under the direction of a Municipal Fleet Supervisor, this position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy and medium vehicles, attachments, and a variety of other municipal equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalent education and experience
- Must possess a valid NS Driver’s License, with a good driving record (a current driver’s abstract will be required)
- Must possess a valid Red Seal Journeyperson Mechanic’s License in the Truck and Transport Trade, recognized in Nova Scotia
- Must have experience in medium and Heavy vehicles and related equipment repair (Municipal Operations would be an asset)
- Must possess a NS Motor Vehicle Inspector License for vehicles in this category, or be willing to attain in 6 months
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must have a reasonable knowledge of Fleet Equipment.
- Must have full understanding of preventative maintenance, as it pertains to municipal equipment.
- Familiarity with computers and a computerized work order system.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision, in a team environment.
- Must have good attendance, as well as be reliable and punctual
- Must provide their own hand tools and toolbox, but receive an annual tool allowance to assist in the procurement of advanced and new tools required to fulfill the roles. HRM provides some specialized tools that are shared amongst employees, when required.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, full-time
HOURS OF WORK: Various shifts available, depending on need. Evening shift (Monday - Thursday, 4:00pm - 2:00am) or day shift (Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm) for 40 hours per week, Shift placement will be determined upon hire.
SALARY: $40.27 per hour, as per the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 108 and Halifax Regional Municipality. Shift differential of $2.00/hr will apply to shifts commencing after 4:00 pm.
WORK LOCATION: Position will be based at Thornhill Drive; however, during snow and ice control operations the incumbent may be assigned to other locations as needed.

Responsibilities:
- Receive, accept and complete work orders and assigned tasks through the use a computerized fleet maintenance system, i.e. Fleet Focus.
- Diagnose, determine the source and extent of, and carry out, the necessary repairs to all types of equipment, diesel and gas engines, and hydraulic equipment contained in a major municipal fleet operation.
- Carry out provincial motor vehicle inspections on fleet equipment.
- Must be available for overtime or shift work, in the preparation of snow & ice control equipment, during snow & ice control operations or any time to meet operational requirements.
- Must have a good working knowledge of Preventative Maintenance and how it pertains to a fleet operation.
- Participate with supporting the apprenticeship program as a journeyperson
- Other duties as assigned
