Title: Fleet Truck Operator and Field Technician
Department: Public Works - Infrastructure
Reports to: Infrastructure Manager, Lead Hand Field Foreman
Designation: Full-Time
Review date: Three (3) Months After Start
JOB SUMMARY
The Fleet Truck Operator and Field Technician will operate front-load Residential and Commercial Garbage Trucks, Septic Trucks, and Potable Water Trucks within the Tsuut’ina Nation. Field technician duties include assisting with septic pump installations, septic field repairs, and water well or cistern maintenance. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme weather scenarios. Emergency on-call duties 24/7 including weekends and holidays.
Regular schedule includes a Monday through Friday work week, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Shifts will transition to shift work, including a four (4) day work week ranging from eight (8) hour shifts to twelve (12) hour shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Desired Experience:
o Experience operating front-load garbage trucks, septic trucks, and potable water trucks.
- Personal Attributes:
o Ability to lift over 50 lbs., and perform manual labor in various weather conditions and dirty environments.
o Proficient in maintaining accurate logbooks and completing required reports.
o Ability to navigate and operate vehicles safely in challenging driving and weather conditions.
o Communication and interpersonal skills.
o Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to operational standards.
- General Employment Requirements:
o Valid Class 3 Driver’s License or higher, with a Driver’s Abstract.
o Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities:
- Garbage Collection and Disposal – operate front-load garbage trucks to collect waste from rural residential homes and commercial businesses within Tsuut’ina Nation, and transport full garbage loads to the City of Calgary areas for proper disposal in all weather conditions.
- Septic Services – operate septic trucks to collect and transport sewage from buildings, businesses, and facilities, and safely dispose of sewage according to established policies and procedures. Assist in septic pump installations, septic field repairs, and other maintenance tasks. Respond to emergency septic service requests as required.
- Water Delivery and Maintenance Services – operate potable water trucks to deliver clean water to rural residential homes on a timely and scheduled basis, and assist in water well and cistern repairs, including learning and performing maintenance tasks as needed efficiently in all weather conditions.
- Field Technician Duties – perform non-driving tasks as assigned to support operational needs, and assist with maintenance, repairs, and other duties as required by the Infrastructure Manager. Respond to emergency situations, including extreme weather and urgent service needs.
- Safety and Maintenance – conduct daily truck safety and maintenance inspections, and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly to the Infrastructure Manager. Keep trucks and equipment clean, safely stored, and well-maintained.
- Logbooks and Reporting – maintain accurate logbooks, recording daily activities, pickups, deliveries, and incidents while following all reporting procedures.
- Teamwork and Adaptability – collaborate with team members to meet service goals and deadlines. Adapt to varying schedules, including on-call emergency duties outside regular working hours. Exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to support team efforts.
