QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science (Food Science) degree or Science related degree or diploma (e.g., chemistry, microbiology)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in food safety management in food manufacturing.
- Must have detailed experience and training in managing HACCP and food safety systems in a manufacturing environment against at least one GFSI Benchmarked food safety standard (BRC preferred).
- Internal audit training and demonstratable, practical experience.
- Experience writing SOPs and implementing in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:
JOB PURPOSE
The Food Safety and Quality Specialist is responsible for the development and maintenance of all policies and procedures that form the Quality Management System to ensure that the business fulfils its requirements and the requirements of our customers. They will be required to perform internal audits to ensure accordance with standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:
- Maintain third-party requirements including BRC, IFS, Organic, Nut Free, Koher, GFCO and RSPO. Arrange and actively participate in third-party audits and CFIA visits.
- Ensure that all non-conformances arising from audits are verified and closed. This includes internal audits, customers audits, third party audits and CFIA visits.
- Conduct internal audits. Ensure that all internal audits are completed and closed within agreed timescales.
- Review non-conformances identified during external/3rd party audits; identify non-conformances through internal audits; work to identify areas of improvement; liaison with key stakeholders to develop corrective actions and implement respective changes; verify the CA has been implemented through inspections and competency checks.
- Perform validation studies related to food safety risk assessments.
- Write, revise, and train SOPs to applicable personnel / departments.
- Undertake mock recall test annually and traceability exercises when required.
- Participate in recalls when required.
- Perform verification and competency activities to ensure process steps are being followed in all areas of the plant, operators are completing checks and proper documentation as required including but not limited to: accurate lot numbers, line checks, recorded deviations and corrective actions when required, label compliance, CCP checks and proper labelling of WIP / finished goods. Any deviations noted must be communicated to appropriate management.
