Description:

SUMMARY

Responsible for compliance with government and third party standards and regulations. Recommends, creates, and presents new processes, SOP’s and applicable training programs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; and 5 to 7 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 3 years of people management and SQF Practitioner preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, reports and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with a variety of people and respond to basic questions in situations where common courtesy and tact are needed.

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets and charts, and run reports.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
  • Good organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within team concept.
  • Familiarity with Word, Excel and database software.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Has a critical role in assuring food safety, quality and continuous improvement and assists with the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF system.
  • Maintains current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards or guidance documents, including compliance with FDA, CTFA, organic and kosher regulations and standards, cGMPs, HACCP, PCQI and other governmental and trade requirements.
  • Works on projects relating to the development of laboratory and organizational process optimization, develops plans of actions and initiates changes for improving process standards throughout the facility.
  • Develops, writes and updates SOPs for current and new manufacturing operations and quality processes.
  • Develops training programs based on auditor standards and regulations.
  • Ensures that required training is done on a timely basis and maintains training records that can be retrieved and presented in a professional manner.
  • Attends or assists third party audits.
  • Works independently while demonstrating excellent judgement, accuracy, and decision making with little oversight.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct or indirect supervision of 3 to 5 auditors and/or associates who provide support in departmental and divisional goals.
Takes responsibility for safety within department and actively assesses hazards in their department and finds solutions to those hazards.
Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.
