POSITION SUMMARY

In this role you will take a hands-on approach to the preparation and delivery of nutritious and delicious meals for our residents while engaging your team by providing inspired leadership, support and communication.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to individuals who have chef’s papers and have completed the Red Seal, or other appropriate education such as Food and Beverage Management.

  • Eligible for membership in the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management (OSNM) considered an asset
  • Experienced in large quantity food preparation
  • Passionate about designing, creating and teaching the dietary team about exceptional dining for seniors.
  • Willing to visit the dining room regularly after plating and during meal service to greet residents and get to know them, and gauge the success of the meal.
  • Demonstrates a creative flair for menu planning, food preparation and presentation.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy eating.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets and current nutritional standards relating to a geriatric population.
  • Able to direct and supervise others using written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work accurately, quickly, and safely.
  • Able to increase or decrease recipes to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Working knowledge of Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Sanitation Code, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety, and Public Health Inspections.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establish, implement and enforce Food Service Department policies and procedures.

  • Plan, organize, direct and supervise the activities of the Food Service Department to ensure the provision of high quality food service.
  • Plan regular, therapeutic and alternate menus based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating, current resident population and special seasonal events.
  • Purchase and receive all supplies necessary for daily meal preparation, nourishments and special events. Delegate duties with team as required.
  • Develop and ensure the use of standardized recipes. Oversee and participate in meal preparation. Supervise meal service to ensure appropriate portion control and resident acceptance.
  • Hire, schedule, coach, terminate, train and orientate all Food Service employees. Establish and monitor work flow, evaluate performance and production making necessary changes to maintain quality service.
  • Interview new residents regarding dietary restrictions, allergies and food preferences recording pertinent information in resident’s chart.
  • Ensure sanitation regulations pertaining to food preparation and food premises are followed.
  • Coordinate Dietary services with other departments as required.
  • Participate in budget preparation.
  • Be knowledgeable of and practice residence’s fire and safety programs.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to all established policies and procedures.
  • Meet with Resident Council as requested or participate in Food Services meetings with residents as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records pertaining to each resident’s nutritional care.
  • Ensure all Public Health reports are communicated to staff and acted upon.
  • Communicate and co-operate with the staff, residents and their families.
  • Work cooking meals on the line 1-2 shifts weekly

Performs other duties as required.
