The Mustard Seed is committed to helping people experiencing homelessness transition toward and maintain sustainable and healthy lifestyles and provides meal service for clients who are actively participating in programs and community events which may include meals. The Food Services Supervisor plays a vital role in overseeing the operation of the kitchen and is responsible for providing the highest quality meals and experience for guests, staff and volunteers. The Food Services Supervisor will work collaboratively with staff to ensure efficient delivery of service and supports. This role will also hire, train, and supervise cooks and other food preparation workers in all sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Food Services certification and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a commercial kitchen environment and at least 2 years’ experience working as a head cook
- Valid certificate from the Saskatchewan Health Authority Food Safe course
- Budgetary oversight experience required
- Experience overseeing staff in kitchen considered a strong asset
- Ability to lead a team consisting of paid staff, volunteers, and clients
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: able to work with a variety of groups and personality types
- Excellent organizational skills necessity for menu planning, staff scheduling, food ordering and planning special events
- Ability to resolve conflicts as they arise
- Desire to serve in a Christian ministry
- Understanding of poverty issues within the inner-city and willingness to continue to learn, particularly about food insecurity
- Demonstrated compassion and empathy towards clients with addictions, mental
- illness, physical disabilities, behavioural issues, and/or medical issues
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for client individuality and self determination
- A broad knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
- Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel) and ability to learn new software programs
- Willingness to attain any necessary training The Mustard Seed requires
- Must be able to drive and meet all TMS requirements to do so

This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain valid driver’s license and will need to consent to a driver’s abstract request.
Responsibilities:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of Food Services in Saskatoon
- Provide supervisory support to the Cooks in the Food Services department: create work schedules, direct and supervise staff to assist them to perform their tasks in an effective and efficient manner
- Manage the Food Service Program ensuring that the most vulnerable are provided nutritional meals, aiming to be innovative in our attempt to have persons educated and involved in providing meals
- Manage the delivery of a healthy and nutritious meal program including researching nutritional information and creating menus that fit the budget and available donations
- Supervise, and maintain logs for the cleaning of all Food Services areas to ensure health and safety standards are met
- Order food and supplies necessary to maintain the successful daily operation of Food Services
- Maintain and be aware of food costs in the preparation of meals and that the menu plans are followed
- Implement the procedures, standards and policies of the Environmental Health Services Guidelines regarding how food is prepared, handled, and stored
- Identify problem areas and suggest methods to improve overall operations of the kitchen
- Provide input to and assist in the implementation of program evaluation
- Implement strategy to involve volunteers within all areas of Food Service, in collaboration with the Volunteer Services department
- Provide direction, supervision, and training in food handling procedures to volunteer meal groups community education groups, individual volunteers, and fine option workers
- Evaluate volunteers and fine option workers, as required
- Record meals served and fine option workers and volunteer hours
- Keep a current inventory of all kitchen equipment
- Input into the development of the food services budget
- Track statistics and prepare reports, as required
- Ensure staff is providing the appropriate reception, acknowledgement, and encouragement for donors, serving groups, and volunteers
- Implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- In collaboration with the supervisor, execute employee performance management and progressive discipline as needed, including documentation of actions taken
- Meet regularly with direct report staff and facilitate Annual Performance Reviews
- Provide training for program staff in food handling procedures
- Complete required training and organize and manage team meetings and other events
- Other duties as assigned

- Build relationships, contribute to and promote a climate of cooperation, respect, gratitude, safety and mutual support with and among supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, donors and community participants
- Assist with recruitment and interviews as needed
- Assist in identification of program equipment and materials
- Serve on internal and external committees, as requested
- Keep guests’ information confidential
- Food pickups may be required
