Job description

Cheshire Constabulary is recruiting to the role of an Identification Officer within the Forensic Investigations Department. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Analyse, compare and evaluate crime scene fingerprint and footwear marks responding to new case information with alternative hypothesis and further work to ensure the Criminal Justice System is not compromised and the Force brought into disrepute.
  • Manage fingerprint and footwear cases from both Cheshire and other regional Forces, liaising with internal and external Investigating Officers to devise a case strategy and agree deadlines as required. Use both National systems and reports to disseminate results accordingly.
  • Develop and co-ordinating the implementation of fingerprint and footwear procedures, and validation in response to evolving National standards and technical developments.
  • Plan and conduct audits in order to identify areas of good working practice, improvement and non-conformance.
  • Analyse, document and report on errors to Senior Management and the Quality Team. Conduct a procedural and technical investigation to ensure the error is corrected and preventative measures are implemented.
  • Conduct training and awareness sessions for Police Staff, Officers and outside agencies in all aspects of visual identification, footwear and fingerprints.
  • Attend crime scene and the mortuary to advise and help recover the best fingerprint and footwear evidence.

Cover the Forensic Identification Technician role when required.
