About Us:
Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services provides forest fire management services for the province including fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and the basic resources for managing forest fires; aviation flight and maintenance crews and equipment in support of forest fire and natural resources management, and other specialized aviation services, including non-scheduled air transport to all government ministries and agencies; and emergency management in response to forest fires, floods, drought/low water, dam failures, erosion, soil and bedrock instability, crude oil and natural gas exploration, natural gas and hydrocarbon underground storage, and salt solution mining emergencies.
Note: These positions are located at the addresses listed, however alternate work arrangements may be available.

INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

  • You have broad knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, regulations, policies and programs related to forest fire and emergency management policies, practices, agreements and services to ensure consistency in policy approaches in Ontario.

STRATEGIC THINKING SKILLS

  • You can prepare reports and recommendations that include long-term direction and aid in the development of programs.
  • You can assess issues on programs and impact of trends in order to contribute to the development of long-term objectives, strategies and goals.
  • You can produce reasoned and objective analysis of differing views and options.
  • You have experience with developing performance criteria and conducting risk analysis.
  • You can devise performance measures and indicators to monitor compliance with policy and standards.

PLANNING AND COORDINATION SKILLS

  • You can lead and participate on a variety of projects and working groups to ensure the advancement of forest fire and emergency management policies and programs.
  • You have proven project management skills and experience to plan projects and provide technical guidance and support to working groups.
  • You can coordinate the development of operating policies, standards and procedures with management teams, ministry staff and stakeholders.

COMMUNICATION AND CONSULTATION SKILLS

  • You can consult, advise and exchange information to maintain effective working relationships with other branches, ministries and professionals.
  • You can write clear and concise policy implementation proposals, guidelines, program communication material and briefing notes.
  • You are an expert on policy interpretation and application.
  • You have negotiation and facilitation skills to lead consultations on policy development.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • establish and coordinate the development of policy documents, standards and procedures for forest fire and emergency management programs
  • lead special projects and working groups
  • develop performance measures to monitor the implementation and compliance of policy and standards
  • represent the branch and participate in multi-program policy development to ensure programs are linked and meet business plan objectives
  • provide advice and recommendations to senior management
