As a Forming Simulation Engineer at ICOMAT, you will play a pivotal role in the design and optimization of forming processes, utilizing cutting-edge simulation techniques and software tools. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring product quality, reducing production costs, and enhancing our competitive edge.
Responsibilities:
- SIMULATION AND MODELLING. Develop and maintain simulation models for composites forming processes such as stamp forming or diaphragm forming. Identify and utilise appropriate commercially available software tools to meet iCOMAT forming targets.
- MATERIALS CHARACTERISATION. Identify critical materials properties to ensure accurate simulation. Work with materials characterisation specialists to populate simulations with the necessary data.
- DFM METHODS DEVELOPMENT. In collaboration with the iCOMAT team develop innovate methods, tools and processes for designing components subject to performance and manufacturing process requirements.
- PROCESS OPTIMISATION. In collaboration with the iCOMAT team optimise forming processes for quality and cost-effectiveness. Analyse simulation results and forming trial outcomes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- TOOLING DESIGN. Utilise simulation to guide tool design to maximise quality and rate in collaboration with product designers and tooling engineers.
- QUALITY ASSURANCE. Develop and maintain a detailed forming quality database linking simulated and practical forming results in terms of materials, tooling and process parameters, defects and quality issues.
- TESTING: Verify and validate simulation results through physical testing and analysis. Work with manufacturing engineers and technicians to plan and execute test campaigns. Compile reports and presentations to communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT. iCOMAT operates an integrated team development model. As a simulation specialist you will be expected to support the team to appreciate the value of forming simulation in an engineering and product development workflow. You will need to stay up to date with forming simulation technologies and industrial best practices and implement these in a fast development environment.
What do we need from you?
- BSc in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or a related field.
- MSc or PhD would be preferred.
- Understanding of and experience with composite materials and processes.
- Experience in forming simulations in an engineering environment using commercial software tools.
- Experience in characterisation of materials properties to support forming simulation.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent problem-solving, collaboration and analytical skills.
- Effective communications at all levels in iCOMAT, its supply chain and its customers.
- Commitment to succeed in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
