Description:
SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Formulation Scientist specializing in amorphous solid Spray Dried Dispersions (SDD) to join our dynamic R&D team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in formulation development, process optimization, and analytical characterization of spray dried products. This position serves as a subject matter expert in SDD technology, focusing on driving the design and development of novel formulations for pharmaceuticals.
In this role, you will collaborate with crystallization scientists to influence the selection of small molecule drug candidates, optimizing the application of SDD technology to enhance drug delivery and bio-performance. You will be responsible for the development of optimal SDD composition and characterization to ensure appropriate in vivo performance. Your expertise will be crucial in advancing our innovative approaches to formulation science and improving patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize fit for purpose SDD formulations to improve solubility and bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
- Conduct stability studies to assess the physical and chemical stability of formulations.
- Optimize spray drying parameters including polymer type and composition, inlet temperature, feed rate, and nozzle design to achieve desired product characteristics.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the spray drying process.
- Utilize various characterization techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, PXRD, FTIR, SEM) to evaluate the properties of spray dried dispersions and ensure product quality.
- Evaluate the physicochemical properties of potential small molecule drug candidates to design an SSD formulation strategy and developability risk assessment.
- Be a subject matter expert in formulation and process development for SDDs supporting multiple discovery teams across several research units.
- Work collaboratively with scientists in the organization to understand and address key challenges in the SDD space.
