The FPGA Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing FPGA-based solutions for critical RF signal processing applications. You will work closely with hardware and software engineers to develop efficient and reliable FPGA designs that meet the project requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Effective at assessing customer needs and proposing solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Solid understanding of industry standard interfaces (e.g, DDR, PCI, I2C, UART and Ethernet, etc.)
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages (Verilog, VHDL) and FPGA development tools (Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of digital design fundamentals, including combinational and sequential logic, finite state machines, and synchronous/asynchronous design techniques.
  • Experience with FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with FPGA-based development boards and prototyping platforms.
  • Strong experience in developing filter topologies including FIR filters, IIR filters, and trading between both implementations
  • Strong experience implementing transmitting and receiving topologies in GNUradio in simulation-only environments as well as coupled with GNUradio-compatible SDRs
  • Strong background in scientific programming using languages such as Matlab, C, C++, Python, Fortran
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex hardware/software issues.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A master’s or PHD degree in electrical engineering.

THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION, WITH POSSIBLE TRAVEL. THE HOURS OF WORK ARE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 8:00 AM TO 5:00 PM, 40 HOURS PER WEEK.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop requirements, design documentation, and test documentation
  • Perform VHDL analysis, develop test bench, simulation, and on-target testing
  • Perform FPGA Synthesis, place, route and timing analysis of FPGA designs
  • Develop FPGA- based solutions for real-time RF spectrum monitoring and analysis. Implementing spectrum capture, domain conversion, detection, and decoding algorithms on various FPGA hardware platforms to capture and analyze RF signals across diverse frequency bands.
  • Translate algorithms and signal processing techniques into FPGA designs, optimize algorithms for implementation on specific FPGA hardware with careful management of critical factors such as resource utilization, timing constraints, and power consumption.
  • Develop communication protocols and APIs that allow software applications to control and configure FPGA-based RF processing chains for specific use cases.
  • Implement digital mixing, interpolation, decimation, and resampling algorithms to translate RF signals between different frequency bands and sample rates.
  • Design and work on FPGA-based SDR architectures that allow software-defined control of modulation schemes, channel bandwidths, and operating frequencies.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the hardware and software teams to integrate FPGA designs into larger system architectures. Ensure compatibility with other systems such as microprocessors, memory devices, sensors, etc.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of FPGA designs, including specifications, design constraints, test plans, and implementation details. Communicate project progress, issues, and recommendations to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
