EDUCATION:

High school diploma with some post-secondary education (e.g. some University or College courses)

EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of recent and relevant experience in office administration and front desk reception in an academic School/Department. Knowledge of an on-line computerized records system (e.g., SIS), (GEM) Course Equipment Order (CEO) system is required. Experience supporting teaching/courses is an asset.

Able to work independently and effectively and collaboratively in a team and with other departments within the Faculty and across the University.
Word processing 40-45 wpm, accuracy is essential.
Intermediate word processing (MS Word) and spreadsheet skills (MS Excel).

Responsibilities:

The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 25 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Within the Faculty of LA&PS, Student Academic Advising Services works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to meet the diverse and holistic needs of all its students. This includes providing a high degree of responsive, student-focused support to students. It is the mission of Student Academic Advising to provide quality academic advising that supports students in achieving their personal, academic, and career goals. A necessity for the Front Desk Advisor is to work collaboratively and as a part of the Student Academic Advising team. The individual will have an appreciation of the work and timeline of each element of the unit’s operation roles and responsibilities.The Front Desk Advisor will also support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement. embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.
