Successful candidates must comply maritime medical certificate and physical health screening requirements for the position as outlined in the Job Description and as determined by a medical practitioner. Ability to execute daily activities with optimal performance, endurance, and strength to be able to balance and climb ladders (5 flights) safely, lift fruit samples and gas cylinders (approx. 20kg) comfortably and safely into and out of the hold of a vessel, while at sea.
Ability to work safely underdeck in confined space where temperatures may get down to -1°C and the visibility is low.
You will need to have intermediate keyboard and computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft package such as Excel, Outlook, Ms Teams, etc.
To be comfortable spending extended periods working alone and having limited contact with others (no internet access on-vessel), be a competent sailor and be at ease working in a male-dominated environment.

Responsibilities:

We are recruiting Fruit Monitoring Technicians to conduct on-vessel fruit conditioning and ethylene monitoring of Zespri Kiwifruit as it travels to our main markets. Voyages are international and are two to four weeks in duration.

You will be responsible for:

  • Conducting testing and assessment of kiwifruit and/or air sampling.
  • Communicating all results of fruit tests and assessments to the Technical Operations Team.
  • Maintaining accurate and current records of tests, associated results, and instructions received.
  • Implementing instructions from the Technical Operations Team regarding fruit conditioning or ethylene monitoring.
