Service Technician Team Lead

Job Title: Service Technician Team Lead
Department: Fort McMurray Service Center
Reports to: Service Center Manager
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, CA
Shift: 1st
Purpose:
Directs and coordinates all Fort McMurray Service Center department activities and functions utilizing knowledge of work procedures, policies and standard work instructions. Anticipates and meets customer expectations by ensuring OEM standards and on-time delivery are maintained using available resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes safety, environmental and housekeeping as job #1 at all times, and complies with all company rules, policies and procedures. Adheres to safety policies, company guidelines, rules and policies including attendance and punctuality and ensures that direct reports do the same.
  • Works with the Service Manager to plan assembly deliveries and assembly labor with a minimum of three months visibility.
  • Has the experience and training to work with different OEM’s and GIW engineers in order to make the necessary product repairs to OEM specifications.
  • Works with OEM’s to select the best equipment options and standardized lowest cost solutions for customer problems.
  • Attends pump production meetings fully prepared with updates on shipments
  • Helps the Service Manager establish and control departmental budget and variances.
  • Responsible for inventory of materials necessary to accomplish work. This includes ensuring levels are adequate and that inventory reporting is correct.
  • Helps plan departmental goals and leads by example in order to meet and/or exceed these goals.
  • Is prepared and willing to physically work on assemblies at any time when necessary (i.e. 24/7 contracts).
  • Performs tactical problem-solving with all personnel and makes recommendations to the Service Manager for improvements.
  • Is responsible for on-time delivery within assigned areas.
  • Approves and/or writes requisitions for supplies, tooling, and materials to prevent departmental barriers or bottlenecks.
  • Monitors maintenance status of plant equipment in assigned areas, initiates maintenance Work Order requests, and ensures timely maintenance is completed.
  • Ensures that the work unit produces ISO quality products to OEM specifications and that “quality products” are passed on to internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for keeping all Service Center logs up to date.
  • Ensures that equipment calibrations are maintained and kept up to date.
  • In partnership with the Service coordinator, creates work schedules for the departments.
  • Conducts performance assessments as designated.
  • In conjunction with Service Coordinator provides information for customer inquiries and delivery updates.
  • Is responsible for Needs Assessment and arrangement of training for Service center personnel
  • Performs all tasks as assigned by Management.
  • Other duties may be assigned as well.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Secondary Mechanical/Technical training a plus
  • Red Seal Millwright Journeyman

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in the rebuild and/or repair of rotating equipment, along with procedures and processes required to successfully operate a service facility. Good working knowledge of GIW pumps and assembly procedures.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraisal performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Skills:

  • Possesses ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Possesses the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as or similar to discounts, mark ups, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Possesses the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of manufacturing software, C4C, SAP, spreadsheet and word processing (i.e. Microsoft Office, etc.).

Project Management Skills:

  • Experienced in Environmental, Health and Safety Programs.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of the latest manufacturing technologies, techniques, and best practices, ensuring their effective implementation within assigned areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including both oral and written, with the desire to achieve results through employee involvement.
  • Strong managerial skills with abilities to direct and coach employees.
