THE ROLE:
This role is responsible for overseeing the finance functions of our growing business — but it’s far from a traditional accounting position. While day-to-day core responsibilities include managing bookkeeping, payroll, and full-cycle accounting, this role also provides the opportunity to intersect with event operations from time-to-time for the right candidate.
We value an entrepreneurial mindset and seek someone who is eager to contribute beyond the numbers — whether that means lending a hand during peak event times or offering insights to refine our financial and operational processes. This position offers a unique opportunity for the right candidate to expand both their finance expertise and overall business acumen.
This is a permanent, part-time position (3 days a week) which features a hybrid work environment, blending the opportunity to work from home with a couple days a week in our Lonsdale Quay office. You will work closely with our management team to ensure our financial data is accurate on a timely basis.
This role reports to the VP, Operations who is a CPA with finance knowledge.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Invoicing – Prepare invoices for customers in a timely manner and track sales
- Accounts Receivable – Manage payments due by communicating with customers and discuss the collectability of AR balances with appropriate members of the team
- Accounts Payable – Review supplier invoices for accuracy, allocate expenses to the appropriate budget lines, and schedule payment batches
- Banking and Cash Management Functions – Account reconciliations including credit card payment batches received
- Payroll Processing – Process bi-monthly payroll runs and manage year-end filings
- Reconciliations – Prepare regular balance sheet reconciliations
- Regulatory Requirements & Filings – Remit quarterly GST, EHT and WCB reports and payments
- Employee Expense Reports – Reconcile receipts and credit card statements monthly
- Annual Budgets and YE Preparation – Assist with preparing annual budgets and supporting documents for external accountants for YE reporting
- Financial Reports – Produce and maintain weekly sales reports, monthly financial statements, and other ad hoc reconciliations and spreadsheets, as required
- Customer Service and Admin – During peak event times you may assist with operational tasks such as attendee registrations, such as ticket substitutions, manual registrations, and building templated documents or presentations
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU:
- Have 1-3 years in full-cycle accounting functions and/or bookkeeping
- Have completed or are working towards completing a diploma/certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business or other relevant discipline
- Are able to manage the big picture, while focusing on the fine details, with a high level of accuracy and organization
- Are a self-starter with effective organizational and time management skills, you have the grit to dig in and get the job done without being nudged
- Love numbers, spreadsheets, and reports and are an Excel nerd who reconciles all reports to the penny
- Have exceptional written customer service skills
- Are interested in working on a large range of tasks with a diverse team who have backgrounds other than accounting
