Description:
Summary: Manages the Wine Bar in planning, organizing, and staffing to optimize profit and meet marketing, financial, and corporate growth objectives by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; however other duties may be assigned to meet the business needs at times.
Assist the department to maximize gross profit and minimize operating expenses.
Have knowledge of the department and store sales and profit objectives.
Assist customers in the selection and purchase of wine and beer by interacting with customers while in the Wine Bar while demonstrating the highest level of customer service. Follow through on customer requests and special orders. Never be rude to a customer under any circumstance.
Maintain conditions of the bar as directed by supervision, within the company. These functions include the following: ordering, changing kegs, maintaining stock levels, merchandising skills, proper back-stock amounts, cleanliness, placing promotional and operational signs, ringing up sales, special request inventory/procedures, and rotation.
Help manage the check in process with Beer & Wine vendors in accordance to company policies and procedures. These responsibilities must be done in accordance with Harris Teeter’s policies and applicable laws.
Bar and back-stock area well managed; neat, clean, organized, inventory levels within corporate guidelines and safe from harm or theft.
Adhere to the customer service and merchandising guidelines that are communicated through corporate merchandising.
Have a thorough knowledge of and comply with all state and local ABC laws and regulations.
Follow all health and safety regulations and help keep the store free of dangerous situations. Immediately inform store management of all accidents and/or safety hazards.
- Meet with Vendors to order kegs for bar
- Create daily keg line up
- Track keg costs, delivery date, tap date on excel spreadsheet
- Track sales of beer and wine served at bar - glasses, bottles, cans, and draft
- Work with Wine Consultant to discuss wines to be poured at bar, such as promotional wines, preferred style of wine based on customer reviews, special pricing, excess stock.
- Interview and train new staff
- Schedule staff for bar. Work with non-perishable Co-Manager to assist in coverage for bar, as needed.
- Create, plan and manage special events: Oktoberfest, St. Patrick’s Day, Black Friday, Tap Takeovers, meet/greet breweries, etc.
- Work with vendors to create promotional posters and secure promo items for events
- Work with Meat Manager & Fresh Foods Manager for special events, cross promotional opportunities and wine/beer & food pairings
- Plan and execute daily bar events; trivia etc.
- Keep management updated on operational or customer issues that arise during bar hours
- Order supplies, for example : Co2, Argon, Nitrogen, make your own 6 packs, dish detergent & wine glasses
- Work with craft beer representatives to maintain clean draft lines. The representatives are to clean the draft lines bi-weekly
- Work with vendors to keep a sufficient amount of beer glasses, coasters etc. for bar
- Wine Consultant and Bar Lead cross train so they may cover each other’s job duties
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Knowledgeable of state liquor laws
- Understand how to assist a customer who may have had too much to drink
- Assist customers with special orders. Work with vendors to assist in fulfilling special orders.
- Assist wine & beer samplers in the location of product and where to setup and log wines sampled
- Assist customers and home shoppers in locating wine and beer
- Serve customers at the bar
- Work with Event Station to promote food & bar
- Create an engaging “family” experience
QUALIFICATIONS:

Extensive knowledge of the beer and wine categories to include, but not limited to the following: product attributes, growing/production areas, tasting methods/criteria, varietal differences, craft & import beer trends and buying practices. Must be at least 21 years of age.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three years related experience and/or training.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word or similar word processing software; Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software; Soft Grocer inventory software or similar inventory software.
