Description:
The Custodian is responsible to provide day-to-day maintenance, cleaning and grounds keeping duties to ensure the property is safe, clean, and well maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a High School diploma.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- 2 years of prior related experience including custodial, computer skills and general electrical/plumbing experience.
- Must have basic electrical and plumbing skills along with good working knowledge of power tools, tractor trailers/lawn care equipment.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- General understanding of basic construction, maintenance, and mechanical systems and health and safety related issues required.
- Should possess a caring and positive attitude.
- Personnel policies and procedures shall be in conformity with the Salvation Army’s Employee Handbook.
- Satisfactory communication skills which include an ability to narrate an incident.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

OTHER DUTIES
- Write detailed incident reports and on-call reports and report serious occurrences immediately to the supervisor.
- Assist management in inspections of the property when required.
- Assist in setting up for building events and functions.
- Undertake any other assignments requested by the supervisor or designate which is compatible with this job description.
- Required to attend and assist with any serious emergency on a 24-hour basis, including fire alarms, major floods, major disturbances, etc. when in the building.
- Able to lift, pull, push, and install appliances.
