Merced Farming has a full time permanent position available for a Farm Hand / Plant Operator to join our team near Wee Waa, NSW. Working under the supervision of the Crop Production Manager and one of our Farm Managers, successful applicants will be required to carry out duties including:
- Row crop and broadacre tractor work, including cultivation, planting and crop applications.
- Preparation of fields both pre and post irrigation (putting out and picking up syphons, scarifying headlands and borders, packing up irrigation items).
- Syphon irrigation of summer crops, including monitoring of water levels and servicing of pumps and water infrastructure.
- General farm work including shed work, tractor work (incl road and channel maintenance) and weed control, including handling of chemicals.
- Assisting Crop Application Manager by providing support with mix truck.
- Harvest related activities, which may include operation of machinery, movement of equipment around the farm and operation of silo infrastructure.
- Some livestock work may also potentially required.
Applicants will require a reasonable degree of physical fitness as harvest work and irrigation can be labour intensive. Applicants should hold a current driver’s license and have their own transport to work but will not need to provide their own vehicle for work purposes. First Aid and Chemcert qualifications would be looked on favourably. Supervision and training will be provided to applicants throughout their employment and further training is encouraged and can be facilitated. Our business takes Workplace Health & Safety seriously and all employees are required to participate in and abide by our WHS policies and procedures.
The position will involve a wage calculated at an hourly rate and compulsory superannuation, paid fortnightly and based on experience of the applicant. Our farms are located close to Wee Waa (8km) and Narrabri (32km) so would allow for the successful applicant to live in town.
