Community Living Mississauga provides a variety of supports and services to people who have an intellectual disability, including: residential supports, employment resources, community engagement, Supported Independent Living, respite, and various day support options. Description of Position
Community Living Mississauga provides residential support for people who have an intellectual disability in Mississauga. Working under the guidance of a Manager/Supervisor, the Support Worker is responsible for the individualized support of people as directed in their personal support plan. Must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings and weekends.
Description of Duties
Provide support to people who have an intellectual disability, based on their personal goals and support plan.
Support may include assisting with daily activities, personal care, medication administration and meal preparation.
Monitor & support health issues for each person supported as required.
Assist people supported to ensure their home is well maintained and image enhancing.
Promote community inclusion, independence and self-determination for people supported.
Encourage self-expression of people supported, and utilize knowledge of verbal and nonverbal communications, including alternative communication systems and techniques.
Stay informed about and utilize community resources.
Work collaboratively with co-workers, the people supported and their families to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
Apply techniques and understand concepts related to non-violent crisis intervention (CPI).
Qualifications
Completed or enrolled and actively pursuing a Developmental Services Worker Diploma (preferred), or Social Services Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker Diploma, or Degree or Diploma in Nursing (RNs, NPs, RPNs).
Will consider a University Degree with a minimum of 1 (one) year of experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.
Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G or G2), access to a reliable vehicle and Insurance.
Current standard First Aid / Level A CPR certificate required.
Proficient with PC computer environment; MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and other software
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written).
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with families as necessary.
Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Bilingualism in English/French or other language would be considered an asset.
