Description:

The Department of Biblical and Theological Studies, housed in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of Trinity Western University, invites applications from exceptional candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in Old Testament Studies/Hebrew Bible at an assistant rank beginning August 16, 2025. The successful applicant will be able to teach with excellence and offer dedicated student supervision in established TWU undergraduate and master’s degree programs in Biblical and Theological Studies. The ideal candidate should also be a strong scholar with an ongoing peer-reviewed research program in her/his field—or show clear promise of developing these qualities. He/she will be a dedicated and mature evangelical Christian; display intellectual rigor and spiritual maturity; be able to engage the Bible as a coherent and canonical whole, centered in Jesus Christ; and recognize its ongoing relevance for the church and society at large.
The desired candidate will have completed a PhD in Old Testament Studies/Hebrew Bible; and have strengths in biblical languages, the history and culture of the Ancient Near East, and biblical theology. These strengths will be reflected in their research programme and in their teaching, which also articulates with excellence the continuing relevance of the Old Testament for the church and the wider world. He/she should have demonstrated expertise in teaching the Old Testament to a diverse student body, and in ways that interact with biblical studies, theology, and the humanities befitting a Christian liberal arts curriculum (more information about the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at TWU can be found here: FHSS). The candidate will be a person of character and integrity, who can make a complementary and collegial contribution to the life and mission of the department, faculty, and University.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies at TWU, which offers three well-recognized programs/majors – biblical studies, theology, and intercultural studies – that seek to provide students with a thoughtful and responsible evangelical understanding of the biblical text and its call to love God and neighbour. The Department aims to produce graduates with an intelligent and lively understanding of the Bible as the authoritative Word of God, with a discerning understanding of what is true, good, and wholesome. Students will be well-prepared for a range of vocations, professional ministry, seminary, and doctoral-level studies.

Successful candidates must be willing to support these statements during their employment at TWU.

All prospective faculty are required to submit the following as part of their online application:

  • a cover letter;
  • a curriculum vitae;
  • verification of doctoral (or terminal) degree;
  • signed Statement of Faith and Community Covenant; and

Please complete the online application available here (only complete applications will be considered). Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate is found.
