Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Funeral Service at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor/Instructor starting August 4, 2025. Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. This position is a full-time, tenure-track position.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
An earned Baccalaureate degree in Funeral Service from an institution accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in a related field (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). NOTE If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor. Candidates must have completed at least a Masters degree in a related field by August 1, 2025. Qualified candidates must also possess both a funeral director and embalmer license. Demonstrable oral and written communication skills required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with other faculty and staff. Reports to the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.
