Description:

GARDEN CENTRE SUPERVISOR & HOTICULTURIST

St Aidan’s Garden Centre is currently looking for a customer service focused person with horticultural retail experience, to manage the day to day running of the Garden Centre; and support the manager and the team in their work in the smooth operations of the Garden Centre and shop. This is a full time 39 hour permanent position on a Community Services Programme which is funded by Pobal through the Department of Rural & Community Development.
The Garden Centre generates income which supports the delivery of services for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities within St Aidan’s Services. It is also a training and supported employment Resource.

KEY EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS: -

  • Horticultural Knowledge - Good plant and gardening knowledge, preferably with qualifications
  • Retail Expertise - Proven ability in retail Garden Centre
  • Team Leadership - Minimum of 3 years experience in managing/supervising a team in a customer facing environment
  • EPOS and Cash handling - Experience in operating and managing an EPOS system and maintaining cash control
  • Passion for Gardening - Enthusiastic can-do leadership with a genuine passion for Garden Centre retail
  • Customer Service - Excellent customer facing retail skills.
  • Organisational Skills - Ability to organise work for the team effectively in a weather dependant environment.
  • Sales Drive - Ability to look and create ways to continuously drive and improve profitable sales
  • Must hold a clean driving licence and willing to drive company vehicles as required
    Hours: 39 hours/5 days week over 7 days

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day to day running operations of the Garden Centre
  • Contribute to good teamwork in sharing knowledge and skills, supporting colleagues to ensure the Garden Centre runs efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure that a high standard of service to customers is delivered at all times, including answering queries, giving advice and guidance on product selection where required.
  • Deal responsibly with customer complaints.
  • Maintain to a high standard of display in the Garden Centre and Shop, and to assist the manager to merchandise the shop to make best use of the space available.
  • Ensure the appropriate care and maintenance of planting including watering, feeding, planting etc.
  • Protect and maintain all buildings, plant, machinery and stocks relating to the Garden Centre.
  • Support the manager with the profiling of seasonal goods and plants, organising themed events when appropriate.
  • Operate the till and ensure that cash is managed in compliance with company policy.
  • Record stock movements in and out on the cash register software.
  • Order, receive, check, log and store the delivery of stock when required.
  • Ensure that stock is maintained in line with procedure, including to carry out regular stock checks and ensure physical stock on hand agrees with computer records.
  • Report discrepancies and problems to the CSP manager.
  • Be vigilant in regard to Security and Health and Safety; and report any security /Health and Safety instances immediately to the relevant manager. This must be carried out with not just yourself in mind, but also the vulnerable adults and children within the service, your work colleagues, and any other people across all our sites.
  • Complete all administration and financial work in accordance with St Aidan’s Services Policies and Procedures
  • Inform management immediately of any/all incidents/accidents and record these.
  • Take responsibility for the opening and closing of the premises and ensuring the security of the premises and stock.
  • Attend regular meetings as agreed.
  • Work alongside our service users, and support in any capacity that they may be involved/working within the Garden Centre
